With the release of Topsy Turvy Abe have again embarked on something new, bringing together their old-world-odd-world roots with strains of new-world instrumentation and influence. The writing process itself somewhat mirrored the journey of the pioneers with Matt heading West (to Liverpool) with a handful of song kernels the band then grew using only the limited set of tools they had.

This was often destructive; as rather than blame their instruments they resorted to burning what they had done in order to rejuvenate it, a process of churn in which songs went round and round in iterative phases or were harvested as fodder for other things.

This rigorous recalibrating and cross-contamination resulted in a cohesive suite of music tied inexorably to its environment, in which all the songs spent time upside down and back to front rendering their final reading here as one of many possible readings.
